Commissioner Orders Swift Restoration and Safety Measures Across Jammu

JAMMU: In response to the incessant heavy rainfall that has caused widespread waterlogging and damage in several parts of the city, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Jammu (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, today conducted an extensive inspection of the affected areas to assess the ground situation and ensure immediate relief measures.

Dr. Yadav visited multiple low-lying and rain-hit localities including Gangyal, Digiana, Gandhinagar, Kalika Colony, Bahu Fort, Janipur, Roopnagar, Chinor, Bantalab, Talab Tillo, Bhagwati Nagar, and other vulnerable zones that bore the brunt of the downpour. During the visit, he interacted with residents, listened to their concerns, and assured them that the corporation is taking all necessary steps to mitigate the impact.

He directed the Engineering, Transport, and Sanitation wings of JMC to launch restoration works on a war footing. Instructions were issued to expedite dewatering operations, deploy additional manpower and machinery such as suction pumps, and conduct thorough inspections of drainage channels, storm-water lines, and culverts to remove blockages and debris. He further stressed round-the-clock monitoring of flood-prone areas to prevent further damage and inconvenience.

Appealing to the public, Dr. Yadav urged residents to remain cautious during the ongoing spell of rainfall—avoid venturing into low-lying areas, stay away from overflowing rivers and drains, and refrain from dumping waste into drainage systems, which worsens waterlogging.

Reaffirming JMC’s commitment to continuous support, he stated that additional response teams are on high alert in coordination with line departments and district administration. Public helplines remain active to address grievances promptly. Dr. Yadav also underlined the need for long-term preventive measures, adding that the corporation is working to strengthen the city’s drainage infrastructure and implement sustainable solutions to reduce future risks.

The Jammu Municipal Corporation has appealed to all citizens to cooperate with ongoing efforts, stay vigilant, and report emergencies on helpline numbers 9419027458, 9469300005, 9419156769, or approach the nearest JMC office for immediate assistance.
