JAMMU: Four members of a family, including two women and a child, were rescued after being swept away by a flash flood in the Ravi river in Kathua district on Monday, police said.
The victims—Mohammed Shafi (60), his wife Reshma (50), daughter Parveena (28), and a two-year-old grandchild—were caught in the flood near Shahpur Kandi following heavy rainfall in the hilly areas.
A joint rescue operation, led by Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Shobhit Saksena, was launched by the J&K Police with support from NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, and the civil administration.
Authorities have urged people to avoid venturing near water bodies as continuous rains have significantly raised water levels.
