New Delhi [India]: The Yamuna River in New Delhi continues to flow near the danger mark, with visuals from the Old Yamuna Bridge showing water levels approaching 205 metres.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued alerts for moderate to intense rainfall over Delhi and several other states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and north coastal Andhra Pradesh, for the next three hours.
“Orange to red warning for moderate to intense rainfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and north coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next three hours,” the IMD tweeted on X.
Heavy rain lashed parts of the national capital and the surrounding National Capital Region (NCR) a day earlier. Areas including Baba Khadak Singh Marg, ITO, and stretches along the Yamuna River experienced intense showers.
Meanwhile, Mumbai also recorded heavy rainfall, causing waterlogging in areas like Gandhi Market in Sion and along the Eastern Express Highway. The IMD has issued a “Heavy Rainfall” warning for August 26–27.
In Rajasthan, water levels rose in rivers of Banswara district following heavy rainfall, submerging Sangameshwar Temple. Devotees were seen climbing to the temple’s top to perform aarti.
Heavy downpours in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bhaderwah disrupted normal life, causing waterlogging in low-lying areas and increasing the risk of landslides along hilly roads.
Authorities have urged people to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from rivers and landslide-prone zones. The administration is actively monitoring the situation.
Due to the heavy rains, all government and private schools in Doda district have been closed. Roads including Bhaderwah–Bani–Basohli–Pathankot and Bhaderwah–Chamba remain closed, leaving travelers stranded.
