Jammu: In a swift multi-agency operation led by the Jammu District Administration, over 3,500 residents were evacuated to safety on Tuesday after incessant rains triggered flash floods and severe waterlogging across the city, officials said.

Teams from the administration, police, NDRF, SDRF, the Indian Army, and local volunteers are carrying out rescue and relief efforts in the worst-affected areas, while work is underway to restore essential services and critical infrastructure.

Officials said the immediate priority is relocating people from vulnerable pockets to safer sites and ensuring food, clean water, and medical care at temporary shelters. Multiple relief camps have been set up, with the Youth Hostel in Jammu functioning as a major shelter. Community kitchens in Muthi and Satwari are providing meals, while medical teams remain deployed at all major relief sites.

Restoration of power, water supply, and road connectivity is being taken up on priority, with Tehsildar Nagrota supervising debris clearance along highways.

Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Rakesh Minhas, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and providing prompt relief to all affected families. He said the situation is under constant watch, and further updates will be shared as the response continues.
