Mhow (MP): India’s armed forces must be ready to face all types of security challenges, from short-term conflicts to a potential five-year war, given the unpredictable geopolitical landscape, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday.
Addressing the ‘Ran Samvad’ at the Army War College here, Singh emphasized that while India does not seek anyone’s territory, it is prepared to go to any lengths to safeguard its own.
“In today’s era, wars are sudden and unpredictable, making it extremely difficult to foresee their duration or conclusion,” Singh said. “Our military must be prepared for every eventuality—whether a conflict lasts two months, a year, or even five years.”
He highlighted that national security is no longer solely a military concern but requires a “whole-of-nation approach.”
Speaking in the presence of top military leaders, including Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, and Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Singh lauded the armed forces for their role in Operation Sindoor. He described it as a prime example of the effectiveness of India’s indigenous platforms, equipment, and weapon systems.
“The operation underscores that self-reliance is indispensable. While we have made significant strides, much work remains ahead,” he said.
Singh added that Operation Sindoor showcased the bravery and speed of India’s armed forces in countering terrorists in Pakistan—actions the terrorists could never have anticipated. “It was a remarkable demonstration of technology-driven warfare,” he noted.
