Jammu: A tragic incident occurred in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, when an employee of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department drowned while attempting to open the floodgates of the swollen Ravi river, officials said.
The employees were caught in the river near Lakhanpur when one of them lost his balance and fell in. Despite extensive efforts, his body could not be recovered.
A joint rescue operation involving the Army, Indian Air Force, J-K Police, and Punjab Police successfully saved the remaining 60 employees.
