Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Thursday inspected the fourth Tawi Bridge, which was damaged by recent flash floods, and assured affected residents that the government would provide full support for relief and rehabilitation.

Heavy rainfall in Jammu caused the Tawi river’s water levels to rise, washing away a section of the road connecting the fourth Tawi Bridge at Bhagwati Nagar. On Tuesday, several vehicles reportedly slipped into the gorge at the damaged section.

During his whirlwind tour of flood-hit areas in Jammu city, Choudhary assessed the extent of damage to the bridge caused by the floods. He reiterated that the government is committed to supporting affected families and delivering all necessary relief measures.

“There is significant damage. It cannot be repaired overnight and will take time. Omar Abdullah visited the city yesterday, and I am here today. This visit is to assure people that the government will fully support them in relief and rehabilitation,” Choudhary told reporters.

Stressing that their focus was on relief rather than publicity, he said, “Our priority is to provide relief to the people and restore traffic on this bridge.” Choudhary highlighted the Omar-led administration’s commitment to infrastructure restoration and rehabilitation and added that any additional assistance needed would be formally requested from the Centre.
