Jammu, : Authorities on Thursday announced the closure of all government and private schools across Jammu Division until August 30 due to heavy rainfall and associated disruptions.
According to an order issued by Director of School Education Jammu, Dr. Naseem Javaid Chowdhary, persistent downpours have caused waterlogging in many school premises, restricted access in low-lying areas, and increased the risk of landslides and falling rocks in hilly regions.
The directive noted that road damage across several districts has made travel unsafe, prompting concerns from parents and local communities who requested an extended shutdown.
“In the interest of student and staff safety, all schools in Jammu Division shall remain closed until August 30, 2025,” the order stated.
School principals have been advised to consider conducting online classes for senior students where facilities permit and to ensure that buildings are thoroughly cleaned and inspected before reopening. Institutions are also required to strictly follow prescribed SOPs and consult local authorities before resuming in-person operations.
The Directorate confirmed that the situation is being closely monitored, with further instructions to be issued based on evolving weather conditions.
