JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, today toured several flood-affected areas of Jammu city to review ongoing relief and restoration efforts.
He visited Greater Kailash, Jogi Gate, and Gujjar Nagar to assess the situation and interact with residents. At Greater Kailash, Dr. Minhas inspected the flood-damaged power receiving station and directed officials to ensure immediate restoration of electricity. He assured people that long-term flood protection measures would be prioritized. While power has largely been restored across Jammu city, Greater Kailash is expected to be reconnected by this evening.
During his interaction with residents at Jogi Gate, the Deputy Commissioner said that clearing muck and debris from houses is a top priority. For this purpose, 40 JCB machines have been deployed, with Tehsildars and BDOs coordinating the operation. He stressed that food availability is equally important, assuring that no one would remain hungry. So far, 10,000 food packets have been distributed, along with cooked meals in affected areas.
Dr. Minhas also informed that water supply is being restored in phases and will return to normal by tomorrow. Medicines are being provided to citizens in affected localities as well.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by SDM Jammu South Manu Hansa, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Tehsildar Jammu Khas Paramdeep Singh, and other district officials.
