Satish Sharma directs comprehensive relief, rehabilitation measures in flood-hit Chamb

JAMMU: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, today conducted an extensive tour of flood-affected areas in Chamb Constituency to review the ground situation and ongoing relief operations.

Accompanied by senior district officers, the Minister visited several inundated villages where floods have damaged houses, crops, and local infrastructure. He interacted with affected families, assured them of full government support, and emphasized that no household—especially vulnerable groups such as the elderly, women, and children—should be left unattended.

Sharma directed officials to ensure immediate rehabilitation of displaced families, including temporary shelters, medical aid, clean drinking water, and sanitation facilities. He also called for a comprehensive damage assessment to enable timely compensation for losses to life, property, and livelihood.

Stressing uninterrupted public services, the Minister instructed concerned departments to maintain continuous supply of food grains, LPG, medicines, and other essentials in the affected areas. He further urged PWD, PHE, Power, and Rural Development departments to work in close coordination for early restoration of road connectivity, power, water supply, and repair of damaged infrastructure. The Health Department was asked to deploy mobile health units in worst-hit villages to provide timely medical aid and prevent outbreaks of water-borne diseases.

Speaking to media, Sharma reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to swift relief and rehabilitation. “Every possible step will be taken to restore normalcy. We will continue to monitor the situation closely until complete rehabilitation is achieved,” he said.
