TOKYO: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Japan on Friday for a two-day visit, during which he will hold summit talks with his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba.
“PM Narendra Modi has landed in Tokyo, Japan. He will engage in wide-ranging discussions with PM Shigeru Ishiba later this evening to strengthen the India–Japan partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a post on X.
Ahead of his departure, Modi described the visit as an opportunity to deepen civilisational bonds and cultural ties between the two nations.
During his stay from August 29 to 30, Modi will hold summit-level talks with Prime Minister Ishiba. “Our discussions will focus on shaping the next phase of our Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which has seen steady and substantial growth over the past 11 years,” he said.
He added that the two sides aim to “give new wings to cooperation, broaden the scope of economic and investment ties, and advance collaboration in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence and semiconductors.”
Following his Japan trip, Modi will head to Tianjin, China, for a two-day visit to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on August 31 and September 1.
“I am confident that my visits to Japan and China will further our national priorities and contribute to stronger regional and global peace, security, and sustainable development,” he said.
