Srinagar: The Economic Offences Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has registered two separate cases against Riyaz Ahmad Bhat (S/o Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, R/o Nowgam, Srinagar) and Shabir Ahmad Wani (S/o Mohammad Ismail Wani, R/o Lasjan, Srinagar) for land fraud, including cheating, forgery of Revenue documents, and criminal breach of trust.

According to sources, one case was filed following a complaint by a woman who alleged that Riyaz Ahmad Bhat sold her a plot of land measuring 1 kanal and 5 marlas at Moza Balhama (Survey No. 312 Min, Khewat No. 27, Khata No. 200) for Rs. 25 lakh. However, she did not receive the land, which was instead sold to another person. Cheques issued by the accused as repayment were reportedly dishonoured.

The second case arose from a complaint by an individual alleging that Riyaz Ahmad Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Wani sold him a plot measuring 1 kanal and 10 marlas at Balhama, Patha Chowk (Survey No. 1683/315 Min, Khewat No. 45, Khata No. 317) for Rs. 73 lakh, with a sale deed duly registered. The complainant claimed that the accused, in collusion with Revenue officials, falsified records and sold the land to another person, effectively cheating him of Rs. 73 lakh.

It is noteworthy that both Riyaz Ahmad Bhat and Shabir Ahmad Wani were previously involved in FIR No. 14/2025 and had been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing for similar offences.

The Economic Offences Wing has launched a detailed investigation into both cases, and any involvement of third-party officials will be prosecuted under the law. Further action will follow based on the investigation’s findings.
