Jammu: Northern Railways will operate two special trains from Jammu station on Saturday to help stranded passengers reach their destinations, officials said, as 46 trains to and from Jammu, Katra, and Udhampur remain cancelled.

To assist travelers, the Railway Police and local administration have set up a dedicated help desk at Jammu railway station.

“To facilitate the movement of stranded passengers, we are running two reserved special trains from Jammu today,” said the PRO of Northern Railways, Jammu division.

The first train, Jammu Tawi–Dr Ambedkar Nagar reserved special, will depart at 3 pm, while the second, Jammu Tawi–Chhapra reserved special, is scheduled for 5 pm. The trains have 700 and 900 reserved seats available, respectively.

On Thursday, Northern Railways had operated two unreserved special trains from Jammu, transporting around 3,000 passengers stranded due to unprecedented monsoon disruptions across the Union Territory.

Addressing queries regarding the Katra–Srinagar–Katra Vande Bharat services, the PRO confirmed that operations on this route are running normally. “Passengers stranded due to landslides and cloudbursts can use these trains between Katra and Srinagar,” he added.

Heavy rains since August 26 have severely disrupted road and rail traffic in the Jammu region, stranding numerous travelers, including pilgrims. A landslide near the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra claimed 34 lives, while the region recorded its heaviest rainfall since 1910, totaling 380 mm by Wednesday.

Northern Railways has suspended 46 incoming and outgoing trains from Jammu, Katra, and Udhampur on Saturday. Train services have been halted for five days due to flash floods and extensive damage to tracks, including misalignments and breaches between Kathua and Udhampur.

Additionally, five trains are operating on short-origin and short-termination arrangements, as per the list released by the PRO of Jammu Railways.
