Jammu: Police on Saturday arrested a man for impersonating a municipal official and extorting money from residents in Jammu city by claiming to oversee construction work, an official said.
The case surfaced after an advocate filed a complaint at Channi Himmat police station, alleging that the accused had posed as a municipal officer and collected ₹15,000 for “spot verification.”
Following the complaint, police arrested the accused, identified as Zafar, who had been posing as a Khilafarzi Inspector and demanding money from locals in Sainik Colony, where construction activities were in progress, a spokesperson said.
Police added that further investigation is underway, as more individuals are suspected to be involved.
