Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has directed the administration to provide immediate relief and rehabilitation to people hit by a cloudburst in Warwan Valley of Kishtwar district.

The cloudburst, which struck Margi hamlet on Wednesday evening, damaged around 15 houses and large stretches of agricultural land, though no loss of life was reported.

Expressing deep anguish over the incident, the chief minister on Saturday stressed the need for prompt relief, rehabilitation and restoration of connectivity. He also directed officials to reach out to Bakerwals in the upper reaches to ensure their safety.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Sharma and SSP Kishtwar Naresh Singh visited Warwan on Saturday morning to assess the situation.

According to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Marwah Mohd Ashraf, 14 to 15 houses were completely destroyed while over 100 others suffered partial damage, affecting more than 100 families.

“While there has been no loss of life, assessment of damages is underway and rescue operations are continuing,” Ashraf said.

A community kitchen has been set up for the affected population, while work is in progress to restore essential supplies.
