KATRA/JAMMU: The Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage on Trikuta Hills remained suspended for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday due to adverse weather conditions. A senior government official also directed the immediate evacuation of commercial establishments, including hotels, in vulnerable areas to ensure pilgrim safety, officials said.

The yatra had been halted on August 26, just hours before a massive landslide on the old route, triggered by heavy rains, claimed 34 lives and injured 20 others.

Heavy rains continued in Katra, the base town for the shrine, early Sunday, prompting authorities to notify pilgrims that the yatra would remain suspended.
