Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday uncovered an alleged plot by a woman lawyer and her two accomplices to frame her ex-husband in a terror case in Baramulla district, officials said.
The case came to light during an investigation into the recovery of a fake improvised explosive device (IED) near the main gate of Manzoor Ahmad Khan’s residence at Mahayan-Ferozpora in Tangmarg on July 31, a police spokesperson said. Acting on a tip-off regarding the suspicious object, police, along with security agencies, conducted a cordon and search operation in the area.
A bomb disposal squad examined the object and determined it was a plastic box made to resemble an IED. It was later confirmed to be fake and posed no explosive threat, the spokesperson added.
The probe led to the arrest of prime suspect Sajad Ahmed Ganie from Nowgam village in Sumbal, who had planted the fake IED and gone into hiding. During questioning, Ganie admitted to acting at the direction of advocate Rahila Qadri, the spokesperson said. Qadri, the former wife of Manzoor Ahmad Khan and current spouse of advocate Rayees Ahmed Bhat from Pandithpora-Tangmarg, allegedly conspired to falsely implicate her ex-husband in a fabricated terror case.
“Due to a prolonged matrimonial dispute, Qadri harbored deep resentment toward her ex-husband and orchestrated the plot to frame him. The accused deliberately provided false information to the police to implicate Khan in a bogus case,” the spokesperson said.
Notices have been issued to all three accused, and the case will be pursued to its logical conclusion before the appropriate court, he added.
