WhatsApp May Soon Let Chats Disappear in Just One Hour
Currently, WhatsApp lets you set chats to disappear after 24 hours, 7 days, or 90 days. But soon, you may have the option to make them vanish in as little as one hour.
The new feature is being tested in the WhatsApp Android beta (version 2.25.24.18), as spotted by WaBetaInfo. While the update isn’t yet available to all beta testers, it suggests that the company is working on adding shorter time limits—such as 1 hour or 12 hours—to give users more flexibility.
This privacy tool ensures messages are sent, seen, and automatically deleted, with no way to retrieve them—even for WhatsApp. However, WhatsApp warns that setting a one-hour timer could mean the recipient might not have time to read your message before it disappears.
Some users have felt that starting with 24 hours as the shortest option wasn’t ideal, and while one hour may feel too short, WhatsApp may eventually consider customizable timers instead of fixed durations.
In addition to privacy updates, WhatsApp is also testing new AI-powered writing tools. These will help users rephrase messages, adjust tone (Professional, Funny, Proofread), and improve style before sending—while still giving the option to send the original text.
