Mumbai: Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday highlighted that preparations for the 2036 Olympics are already in full swing, with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), led by PT Usha, gearing up to host the Games in India.

India has officially submitted its bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The IOA, under President PT Usha, sent a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in October 2024.

“Preparations for the 2036 Olympics have started in full swing. The Indian Olympic Association, under the leadership of MP PT Usha ji, has decided to bid for it. We are now preparing our official bid and moving forward with all necessary preparations to ensure that the Olympics are held in India,” Goyal said during an event.

India’s bid reflects its ambition to contribute to the global sporting community and showcase the nation’s capability to host a grand international event. Both the sports fraternity and the government are optimistic and committed to turning this vision into reality, aiming to present India as a gracious host for the Games.

Recently, the IOA also approved India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games during its Special General Meeting (SGM) held earlier this month. PT Usha expressed her delight at the approval and emphasized the country’s enthusiasm to host the event.

Ahmedabad is expected to be the likely host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. Proposals must be submitted by 31 August, with Commonwealth Sport anticipated to announce the host city in November.

In addition, Goyal announced the MP Sports Festival of North Mumbai, scheduled from 21 September to 25 December. He aims for the event to attract at least 1 lakh participants.

“I am very happy to announce that the MP Sports Festival of North Mumbai will be held on a large scale from 21 September to 25 December, spanning 95 days. My goal is to have at least 1 lakh participants,” he added.
