Focus on Student-Centric Initiatives, Placement Cells, and Digital Learning; Emphasis on Support for Marginalized Students

SRINAGAR: Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo, today conducted a comprehensive review of the academic and administrative functioning of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, during a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat.

The meeting was attended by Vice Chancellor Prof. Jawaid Iqbal; Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education Department (HED), Shantamanu; Deputy Commissioner Rajouri/Registrar BGSBU, Abhishek Sharma; Director RUSA; Special Secretaries of HED; Director Finance; Director Planning, HED; and other senior officials, both in person and via video conferencing.

Minister Itoo undertook a detailed assessment of the university’s progress in teaching and research, infrastructure development, student welfare, and other key initiatives. She emphasized BGSBU’s critical role as a higher education hub in the Pir Panjal region, calling on the university to adopt student-centric measures, strengthen placement cells, and upgrade digital learning infrastructure to align with national and global standards.

Reviewing ongoing infrastructure projects, the Minister directed timely completion of all works and instructed that only necessary new projects should be initiated. She also urged the university to expedite hostel renovations to ensure comfortable accommodation for students.

On human resources, Minister Itoo instructed the engagement of teaching staff on an academic arrangement basis for courses with maximum enrollment until regular positions are filled. She further stressed the need to facilitate students from remote and marginalized communities through scholarships, remedial coaching, and mentorship programs.

The Minister lauded the university for achieving record admissions in the current session and assured full government support in meeting its requirements. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening higher education in Jammu and Kashmir, she praised BGSBU for its efforts in promoting academic excellence in the region.

During the session, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri/Registrar BGSBU presented a detailed report on the university’s functioning.
