Srinagar: The weatherman on Tuesday forecasted widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 60 hours.

Independent meteorologist Faizan Arif said, “Parts of the Jammu region are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, though occasional breaks may occur.” He added that river and stream levels could rise significantly, with some areas potentially reaching flood alert levels.

“In the Kashmir region, rainfall is expected to be less intense than in Jammu. However, certain areas, especially the Pir Panjal mountains and the higher reaches of Kulgam, Shopian, and Anantnag, may witness heavy showers,” Arif noted. He also warned that the water level of the Jhelum River is likely to rise noticeably during this period.

The forecaster cautioned that thunderstorms with gusty winds may occur in some areas, and flash floods or cloudbursts cannot be ruled out. Streams and rivers across both regions may swell, and mountain passes are expected to remain vulnerable to landslides and falling rocks.

Residents and travelers have been urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions during this period of heavy rainfall.
