Satish Sharma Inspects Tawi River Embankments, Reviews Flood Preparedness
JAMMU: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, today carried out a thorough inspection of the Tawi river embankments to assess water levels and evaluate the district administration’s readiness for any flood-related contingencies.
Accompanied by ADC Jammu Anusya Jamwal and senior officials from Flood Control, Irrigation & PHE, Revenue, and Disaster Management departments, the Minister reviewed safety measures in place for settlements along the riverbanks and nearby low-lying areas. He was briefed on the deployment of machinery, availability of rescue boats, positioning of medical and relief teams, and arrangements for temporary shelters in case of emergencies.
During interactions with officers on-site, Satish Sharma directed continuous monitoring of river water levels and emphasized swift communication between field staff and control rooms. He also instructed authorities to promptly issue alerts to residents in vulnerable areas to ensure safe and timely evacuations if necessary.

The Minister stressed maintaining adequate stocks of rations, drinking water, medicines, and other essentials at relief centres, directing the Civil Supplies department to make advance provisions to prevent hardship for displaced families.
Expressing satisfaction with the preparations, Satish Sharma stated that while the government has a robust flood preparedness mechanism, constant vigilance and coordinated action are crucial. He urged the public to stay calm yet cautious and to follow official advisories and safety guidelines.
In a humanitarian gesture, the Minister announced that he will donate his two months’ salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, emphasizing that such contributions, however modest, can provide timely support to families affected by natural disasters.
“The safety and welfare of the people remain our top priority. The government is fully equipped to respond to any situation and will extend all possible assistance to safeguard lives and property. We stand shoulder to shoulder with our citizens in this hour of need,” he said.
The Minister assured that the administration will remain on high alert until conditions normalize and reiterated that proactive measures will continue to mitigate risks and minimize damage.
