Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Police have successfully rescued a missing girl from Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir and arrested two individuals, including a woman, in connection with her alleged kidnapping, officials said on Tuesday.

On August 13, Ram Singh, a resident of Lahaul and Spiti district, reported to Udaipur Police Station that his wife, Sapna, and daughter, Adhvika, had gone missing. On the same day, police received information that Sapna’s body had been recovered in Kiratpur Sahib, Punjab, while the daughter remained unaccounted for.

A case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for kidnapping was registered on August 16. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by Inspector Mukesh Kumar, was formed to probe the case.

The SIT worked in close coordination with Punjab Police, conducting intensive field investigations across Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. Despite challenges posed by difficult terrain, heavy rainfall, and poor network connectivity, the team followed all possible leads. They analyzed CCTV footage and CDR data, and with assistance from local intelligence, identified and apprehended the suspects—a man and a female accomplice.

Further investigation revealed that the missing girl was in Kulgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Police, together with the girl’s family and with support from local authorities and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), successfully recovered her and safely handed her over to her father.
