Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to the chief ministers of Haryana and Delhi for their support in the Union Territory’s flood relief efforts.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini contributed ₹5 crore to the relief fund, while Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta personally called Abdullah to extend her government’s assistance to the flood-affected region.
“Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the Haryana Government @NayabSainiBJP for contributing ₹5 Cr to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund,” the official X account of the J-K CM noted. Abdullah said the generous support would bolster ongoing relief and rehabilitation operations.
Earlier, Abdullah also thanked Gupta for her solidarity and support. “Chief Minister thanked Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, @gupta_rekha Ji, for her call expressing solidarity with the flood victims of J&K and for extending her generous offer of support from the Delhi Government,” the statement added.
Abdullah emphasized that such gestures of cooperation and goodwill strengthen the administration’s resolve during these challenging times.
Jammu and Kashmir has been battered by an unprecedented monsoon, with over 130 people killed and 33 reported missing due to cloudbursts, landslides, and flash floods across Kishtwar, Kathua, Reasi, and Ramban districts since August 14. The fatalities include 34 pilgrims who were caught in a landslide en route to the Vaishno Devi shrine on August 26.
Record rainfall on August 26-27 triggered flash floods in low-lying areas of Jammu and other plains, causing extensive damage to infrastructure.
