Srinagar,: Former Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar and noted weather expert Sonam Lotus on Wednesday cautioned residents about rapidly rising water levels across Jammu and Kashmir following continuous heavy rainfall.

He noted that while the downpour would persist until the afternoon, its intensity is expected to gradually ease later in the day, with normal weather conditions likely to return from Thursday.

“Due to heavy rainfall, water levels are rising quickly, and people need to remain cautious. The intensity will continue till the afternoon before gradually declining. From tomorrow, the weather is expected to improve,” Lotus said.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar issued an advisory urging people to stay alert in view of the risk of flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas.

Authorities confirmed a significant rise in the water levels of the Jhelum, Tawi, and several tributaries, heightening fears of flooding and waterlogging in low-lying regions.

“People are advised to remain updated and strictly follow official weather advisories for their safety,” the advisory emphasized.
