New Delhi: Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain and veteran batter Virat Kohli has extended his condolences to the victims of the tragic stampede outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the team’s IPL trophy celebrations on June 4.
The incident occurred when nearly three lakh fans gathered to witness RCB’s maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title celebrations. The stampede claimed 11 lives and left more than 50 people injured.
“Nothing in life prepares you for a heartbreak like June 4. What should have been the happiest moment in our franchise’s history turned into something tragic. I’ve been thinking of and praying for the families of those we lost and our injured fans. Your loss is now part of our story. Together, we will move forward with care, respect, and responsibility,” Kohli said in a message shared by RCB on social media platform X.
Following the tragedy, RCB last month announced financial aid of ₹25 lakh each for the families of the deceased. The franchise, along with its fans and members of the cricket fraternity, has since expressed grief and solidarity.
On Instagram, the team reaffirmed its support under a new initiative, RCB Cares, stating: “Our hearts broke on June 4, 2025. We lost eleven members of the RCB family. They were part of us—part of what makes our city, community, and team unique. Their absence will echo in our memories.”
RCB emphasized that the financial assistance is not just monetary relief but also a “promise of compassion, unity, and ongoing care” for the affected families. The RCB Cares programme, launched on Monday, outlines the franchise’s long-term commitment to its fans, focusing on support, empowerment, and meaningful engagement with the 12th Man Army.
In the coming months, after securing necessary permissions, RCB Cares aims to go beyond financial aid by offering swift, transparent, and compassionate support to fans and families impacted by the tragedy.
