All Health Institutions Fully Functional, No Need to Panic: Health Secretary

Srinagar: Amid continuous heavy rains across Jammu and Kashmir, Health Secretary Abid Rasheed on Wednesday assured that the Union Territory’s healthcare system is “fully functional, operative, and on the ground,” emphasizing that there is “absolutely no need to panic.”

“For the past eight days, this has been the situation across Jammu and Kashmir. While conditions in Jammu have varied, today heavy rainfall continues. All our health institutions, from primary to tertiary care, are operational, and doctors, paramedics, and healthcare staff are fully on duty,” Rasheed said.

He added that special measures have been rolled out in flood-affected areas. “In Jammu, health camps have been organized in flood-hit localities, providing medicines and treatment directly to people’s doorsteps,” he said.

In South Kashmir, which has experienced intense rainfall in the past 24 hours, hospitals are on high alert. “We are inspecting hospitals to ensure any potential gaps are addressed. The administration is fully involved to make sure healthcare facilities, equipment, and services remain accessible and functional,” Rasheed said.

Acknowledging the efforts of frontline workers, he said, “Whether it’s snowfall, rainfall, or any natural disaster, doctors, paramedics, nurses, and ambulance drivers are risking their lives to serve the people, including in remote areas. I sincerely thank them all.”

Rasheed emphasized that the administration remains in a constant state of preparedness. “There is no need to panic. We are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any incidents that could cause distress,” he said.

The health department is reviewing preparedness every two hours, particularly in areas affected by flooding or heavy rainfall. He urged the public to remain cautious about waterborne diseases and called on social and electronic media to help spread awareness.

“We are united in our efforts and, with your support, reviewing healthcare preparedness every two hours. Inshallah, we hope for the best,” he added.
