Jammu: Three officials in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, including a Block Development Officer and an Assistant Executive Engineer, have been issued show-cause notices for unauthorized absence from duty.

The General Administration Department (GAD) had on August 27 instructed that no leave would be granted to any officer or employee due to the ongoing heavy rains and adverse weather in the region.

Following this, the Additional District Development Commissioner of Reasi, Sukhdev Singh Samyal, issued notices to the Block Development Officer of Chassana, Mahore, and Gulabgarh, an Assistant Executive Engineer of the PWD, Mahore, and a senior assistant of the department.

The officials have been asked to submit a written explanation within two days via the Assistant Commissioner Development, Reasi, SDM Mahore, detailing the reasons for their absence. The notice also warned that disciplinary action could follow for this lapse.

The Deputy Commissioner of Reasi had on August 29 reiterated that employees must not leave their headquarters without prior approval. The notice stated that the officials had left without permission from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mahore or any other competent authority, violating these directives.

The Additional District Development Commissioner highlighted that the district remains at high risk of landslides and cloudbursts, with seven fatalities already reported in Gulabgarh due to incessant rains.
