Jammu: In a compassionate move, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has launched a major relief operation to assist over 1,000 families affected by heavy rainfall and landslides in Katra and nearby areas of Reasi and Udhampur districts.
Families from Purana Daroor village, whose homes were severely damaged, have been temporarily relocated to Shakti Bhawan, Niharika Complex of the Shrine Board at the request of the district administration, ensuring their safety and well-being during this difficult period, the Board said in a statement.
Initially, relief supplies for 400 families were handed over to the Reasi district administration to facilitate prompt distribution in Katra and surrounding areas. The aid includes dry ration kits, utensils, blankets, medicines, buckets, tarpaulins, and tents to meet immediate needs and help families recover from the calamity.
SMVDSB Chief Executive Officer Sachin Kumar Vaishya reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to supporting the local community in times of crisis, emphasizing that, in coordination with the Reasi district administration, comprehensive assistance will continue to be provided to ensure the safety and well-being of affected families.
The Shrine Board has a history of stepping in during emergencies, including the COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters, to serve the community, the statement added.
