NEW DELHI: India on Wednesday raised concerns over issues such as migration, mobility, visa procedures, and non-tariff barriers impacting domestic exporters in the European Union (EU), particularly in Germany. Both sides agreed to collaborate on resolving these challenges to ensure smoother trade flows, the Commerce Ministry said in a statement.

The matters were discussed during a meeting between Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Germany’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Johann David Wadephul, who is on an official visit to India.

Talks centered on strengthening bilateral trade and investment, while also exploring cooperation in innovation, sustainability, technology, and other areas of mutual interest.

“The discussions also covered migration and mobility, streamlining visa processes, and addressing non-tariff barriers faced by Indian exporters in the EU, including Germany. Both sides agreed to work together to resolve these issues and facilitate smoother trade flows,” the ministry said.

The ministers also agreed to work towards doubling bilateral trade in goods, which reached USD 29.12 billion in 2024-25, and to further expand trade in services. The proposed India-EU free trade agreement was also part of the deliberations.
