Srinagar: Authorities in Kashmir on Thursday issued an advisory for residents and houseboat owners on Dal Lake, urging them to take precautionary measures as water from the Jhelum may need to be diverted into the lake.

Officials said the Jhelum has crossed the danger mark of 21 feet, prompting the Jammu & Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) to caution Dal dwellers.

“The gate at Ram Munshi Bagh may be opened at any time to regulate the surge in Jhelum’s water level. This could raise Dal Lake’s current level of 10.5 feet, posing risks to houseboats and residents,” an official spokesman said.

He added that dwellers have been advised to remain vigilant, take safety precautions, and be prepared to shift to relief centres designated by the Srinagar administration if necessary.
