SRINAGAR: Commissioner Secretary of the Housing & Urban Development Department (HUDD), Mandeep Kaur, today conducted an extensive inspection of flood-affected areas in Zoonipora (Pulwama), Tengan (Budgam), and surrounding regions of Srinagar district to assess the prevailing situation.
She was accompanied by Commissioner of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, along with other senior officials. During the visit, the Commissioner Secretary evaluated water levels at critical locations and interacted with landowners affected by flooding following embankment breaches.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Mandeep Kaur assured that all necessary support would be provided and that the situation would continue to be closely monitored to ensure public safety. The SMC Commissioner briefed her on the ongoing measures, including deployment of personnel and machinery at vulnerable points to address waterlogging.
Notably, late last night, the Commissioner Secretary visited the Flood Monitoring Centre at Ram Munshi Bagh to review preparedness in view of rising water levels in the Jhelum River and its tributaries. She was updated on water level readings at Ram Munshi Bagh and other high-risk locations along the river. Emphasizing the importance of timely information and rapid response, she noted that these measures are crucial to minimizing loss of life and property.
