Uri: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Uri on Saturday issued an advisory following reports from the District Administration Baramulla and NHPC-I that the Jhelum River’s water level has risen sharply, currently being discharged at around 630 cumecs.
The SDM warned that the water level is likely to rise further in the coming hours, potentially impacting low-lying areas. “No movement shall be allowed near the Jhelum River and other water bodies. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions,” the advisory stated.
Authorities have urged people to stay indoors and monitor official updates closely. In case of emergencies, residents have been instructed to dial 112 immediately.
All concerned departments have been directed to remain on high alert and ensure readiness to respond to any emergency. The SDM also instructed the Tehsildars of Uri and Boniyar to restrict public access near the Jhelum, while GGM NHPC-I and II have been asked to make announcements in vulnerable areas.
