JAMMU: Commissioner of the Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, has issued an urgent appeal to residents to remain vigilant and adopt preventive measures as several areas of Jammu city and district continue recovering from the recent floods. He highlighted that flood-affected regions are highly susceptible to waterborne and vector-borne diseases, and immediate action is essential to safeguard public health.
Dr. Yadav noted that contamination of drinking water is a major concern during this period, potentially causing illnesses such as stomach infections, diarrhea, fever, and headaches. Additionally, the ongoing season increases the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya, particularly in areas with stagnant water.
Advising residents on preventive steps, Dr. Yadav urged people to boil drinking water for at least 10 minutes to eliminate harmful microorganisms. He also recommended using chlorine tablets wherever possible, allowing water to settle for at least 30 minutes after treatment before consumption or cooking. Residents were further encouraged to remove stagnant water from rooftops, courtyards, and drains to prevent mosquito breeding.
To support public health efforts, the Health Department has activated the 104 helpline to provide guidance and address health-related queries. Meanwhile, the Jammu Municipal Corporation has intensified fogging and spraying operations across all wards to curb mosquito breeding and reduce the risk of vector-borne diseases.
Dr. Yadav requested that if fogging and spraying have not yet reached a locality, residents should register their area and ward number on the JMC helpline, enabling authorities to prioritize areas requiring immediate attention.
“The health and well-being of our citizens is our top priority,” said Dr. Yadav. “JMC is taking all possible measures through coordinated efforts by sanitation teams, health workers, and support staff. The success of these initiatives depends on public cooperation. Together, we can prevent the spread of diseases and ensure a safe and healthy environment.” He added that JMC continues to monitor the situation closely and is taking proactive steps to protect public health during this critical recovery period.
