Srinagar: The police in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir have registered 12 FIRs for violations of food safety regulations and public health norms, officials said on Saturday.
As part of a large-scale crackdown, authorities targeted restaurants and shopkeepers found flouting food safety and hygiene standards. The move is aimed at safeguarding public health and ensuring the safety of food being prepared and sold in the district.
Several establishments were reportedly operating in violation of prescribed guidelines. In response, strict legal action has been initiated, resulting in the registration of 12 FIRs across different police stations in Anantnag.
“All cases have been filed under the relevant provisions of law governing food safety, public health, and hygiene standards,” a police official said, adding that investigations are ongoing and offenders will face strict legal consequences.
The J-K Police have urged all food business operators to comply fully with the norms set by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and other regulatory bodies.
