Jammu: A high-level team led by Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar on Sunday inspected ongoing repair work on three crucial bridges damaged by recent flash floods in Northern Railways’ Jammu division, an official said.

The floods had disrupted train services in the region over the past fortnight, prompting Northern Railways to cancel 68 incoming and outgoing trains from Jammu and Katra stations until September 30. Special trains were introduced to assist stranded passengers, and 21 trains resumed service on September 4. However, a fresh landslide on the Jammu-Katra track the same day forced suspension of the newly launched shuttle service.

The inspection team, which included Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal, visited the affected bridges: Bridge No. 232 over the Chakki River between Pathankot Cantonment and Kandrodi Block, Bridge No. 17 between Kathua (JK) and Madhopur (Punjab), and Bridge No. 137 between Ghagwal and Hiranagar (JK).

The officials conducted a thorough inspection and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the repair work, which is expected to be completed soon. “After the flash floods, a detailed assessment of the infrastructure, including 232 bridges, was carried out as passenger safety remains our top priority,” said the Jammu Divisional Railway Manager.

He added that instructions have been issued for the swift completion of repairs to restore normal railway services in the division.
