OnePlus Ends Hasselblad Partnership, To Introduce Own Camera Tech With OnePlus 15

OnePlus has officially ended its collaboration with Hasselblad, meaning the brand’s upcoming flagship will no longer carry the iconic camera branding. Instead, the company is set to rely on its own imaging system, called the OnePlus DetailMax Engine.

While OnePlus operates under Oppo, it continues to maintain its independent identity. The shift to in-house camera technology marks a new phase in its journey toward becoming a stronger premium brand. Camera performance has long been a weak spot for OnePlus, and the new DetailMax Engine is expected to address that challenge. CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the system is still being fine-tuned but early results are “promising.”

The OnePlus 15—skipping the number 14—is expected to be the first device powered by this new imaging engine. Lau also confirmed that the upcoming flagship will feature a refreshed design, with a flatter frame reminiscent of the OnePlus 9 and 10 series.

In a farewell note, Lau thanked Hasselblad for its role in elevating OnePlus’s imaging journey:
“To Hasselblad: thank you for your craft, your trust, and for showing us the heights passion and precision can reach. This partnership has delivered on every promise we set, and as we wrap up this chapter, our respect remains as strong as ever.”

The OnePlus 15 is expected to launch later this year, powered by Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 SoC. Reports also suggest the brand will continue using silicon-carbon battery technology, which could allow for a massive 7,000mAh or higher battery capacity.
