Srinagar: Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Monday stated that 40 schools in flood-affected areas remain closed and will reopen only once the situation improves and the health and education of children are ensured.
Addressing reporters, the minister explained that the closures were due to the floods, which damaged school facilities and temporarily displaced residents who have been accommodated in these schools. “Forty schools have been shut down because of the floods, the resulting cleanliness issues, and the relocation of affected people to these schools,” she said.
Itoo emphasized that the schools will remain closed until it is safe to reopen. “We will reopen these schools as soon as possible, ensuring that there is no risk to children’s health and their education,” she added.
She also clarified that schools in unaffected areas will continue to operate normally. “The rest of the schools will remain open,” she confirmed.
