LG Sinha Urges Jammu University to Champion Innovation, Sustainability, and Climate Resilience
JAMMU: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha delivered the keynote address at the Foundation Day ceremony of the University of Jammu today, emphasizing the role of higher education in building a Viksit Bharat.
Addressing the gathering, the LG called upon the University to harness innovation and cutting-edge technology for conservation, integrate sustainability into education, and equip students to tackle emerging challenges. “Our youth must drive development that meets societal needs without compromising ecosystems and optimize resources through modern innovation. We need a multi-dimensional approach to make the Earth better for future generations,” he said.
He urged faculty to guide students in balancing nature with development, stressing that protecting Mother Earth and promoting environmental awareness is a shared responsibility across all levels of society.

Extending his congratulations to the Vice Chancellor, faculty, non-teaching staff, and students, the LG encouraged the University community to set ambitious goals and pursue them with renewed zeal. He highlighted the recently released NIRF-2025 rankings, noting them as both a reflection of progress and a motivation to critically evaluate and set new targets for higher education in Jammu & Kashmir.
“The process of change on campus should be continuous, ensuring students remain curious, determined, and passionate about facing future challenges. Real-world experience bridges theory and application—classrooms must evolve into spaces of creativity and inquiry. Experience-based, interdisciplinary, life-skills, and project-oriented education should be our focus,” he added.
The LG also urged the University to introduce short-term professional programs addressing climate challenges and to conduct research on floods and landslides. “Natural disasters have impacted the entire world, including Jammu & Kashmir, causing massive infrastructure damage and loss of lives. The Government of India is committed to restoring normalcy and ensuring proper rehabilitation. Once road connectivity is restored, the University should deploy student groups and volunteers to assist district administrations in relief and rehabilitation efforts,” he said.
The LG felicitated University alumni, NSS and NCC volunteers, and retired teaching and non-teaching staff, urging them to contribute to the University’s progress.
Under its CSR initiative, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Northern Region Transmission System – II) handed over a PA system and streetlights to the University of Jammu.
