Jerusalem: At least six people were killed and more than 20 injured after two Palestinian gunmen opened fire near a crowded bus stop on the outskirts of Jerusalem, emergency services said Monday.
According to The Times of Israel, four victims died at the scene and a fifth later in hospital. Seven of the wounded remain in critical condition, two in moderate, and three in light condition.
Israel’s emergency medical service, Magen David Adom (MDA), reported finding several unconscious victims amid “extensive destruction.” Paramedic Nadav Taib described the scene as chaotic, with shattered glass and debris scattered across the road and sidewalk.
MDA Director-General Eli Bin confirmed that of the 15 seriously wounded, at least five sustained gunshot injuries.
The assailants reportedly boarded Egged Bus 62 and began shooting passengers before being “neutralised” by security forces. Israeli police identified them as West Bank Palestinians, though their identities and motives are still under investigation.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a high-level security assessment following the attack, while authorities sealed all entry and exit points to Jerusalem amid a manhunt for possible additional suspects.
United Hatzalah teams also assisted MDA in treating the injured at the site.
The attack comes against the backdrop of rising violence tied to the war in Gaza, with recent months seeing deadly assaults by Palestinian militants in Israel and the West Bank, alongside increasing incidents of settler violence against Palestinians.
Monday’s incident is the deadliest mass shooting in Israel since October 2024, when two Palestinians killed seven people in Tel Aviv. That attack was later claimed by Hamas’s military wing.
Authorities continue to investigate the Ramot Junction shooting as security forces remain on high alert nationwide.
