Jammu: In the aftermath of relentless rains and flash floods that submerged villages and severed lifelines in Kathua district, the Indian Army launched extensive relief operations using manual, vehicular, and aerial resources.
Chilla village, isolated for several days due to floodwaters, received critical aid on Monday as Army drones delivered 300 kilograms of food and medicines to affected families.
“Relentless rains and flash floods devastated Kathua, submerging villages and cutting off access. In areas like Diluan, Manjali, Parala, Jamalpur, and Bijjat, families remained stranded, facing severe hardships,” said the Defence PRO.
Around 200 households, comprising nearly 650 men, women, and children, were provided with food, clean drinking water, medicines, and other essential relief materials. Special attention was given to children, with chocolates and other necessities included, the PRO added.
Over two days, the Army’s JCBs worked tirelessly to clear debris and submerged roads, creating pathways for relief operations and ensuring essential supplies reached areas where connectivity was disrupted.
Troops from the Gurj Division also coordinated with the civil administration to deliver 300 kg of ration to sixteen stranded families in Chilla via drones, he said.
“The relief efforts underscore the Indian Army’s commitment to supporting communities in distress, offering not only supplies but hope and reassurance,” the PRO noted.
As floodwaters recede, the Army remains fully prepared to continue relief and rehabilitation efforts in Kathua and other affected regions.
In addition, the Army conducted medical camps along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts. “Beyond rescue, medical camps were held in Makwal, Pallanwala, Bishnah, Samka, Paragwal, Janipur, Amphalla, Rehari, and other border areas, providing medicines and care to affected residents,” the PRO said.
