Reasi: In a major relief effort for cut-off areas, the District Administration Reasi has restored essential supplies through railway services. On Tuesday, 86 quintals of dry ration—comprising 106 wheat bags and 66 rice bags—were delivered to the affected Sawalkote area.

The supplies were transported via a special train arranged in coordination with the Railway authorities after the administration formally requested restoration of the Kanthan–Sawalkote route on 6 September 2025. The Railways responded promptly, commencing the dedicated service today, which will continue until 12 September. The first consignment was carried from Katra to Sawalkote, ensuring uninterrupted food supplies to affected families.

Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Malik is personally overseeing coordination with the Railways to ensure smooth logistics and timely distribution.

Meanwhile, efforts are also underway to airlift supplies to completely cut-off areas like Sarhi in Bhomag with Army assistance. A request was submitted on 7 September, but poor weather has delayed the operation. The airdrop is expected tomorrow if conditions improve.

The Sarhi area remains isolated due to multiple landslides on the Reasi–Sarhi (via Tote) road, while the alternate Udhampur–Sarhi (via Moungri) route is blocked after the Thathi Bridge was washed away. Though adequate ration stocks are available, precautionary measures are being taken to prevent shortages.

The Deputy Commissioner said that reconstruction of the Thathi Bridge is being prioritized with Army support, alongside exploration of alternate routes and manual transport options. “Our goal is to ensure no family suffers due to disruption of supply lines,” she emphasized.
