Jammu: AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday joined a protest here against the detention of the party’s Doda MLA Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA), accusing the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of attempting to “crush” the party wherever it gains ground.
Calling Malik’s detention “illegal and unconstitutional,” Singh said that never before in Jammu and Kashmir’s history had an MLA been booked under the PSA. “Wherever AAP progresses, the BJP and the prime minister try to suppress it by filing false cases and jailing our leaders,” he alleged, citing the arrests of Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, and himself as examples.
Accompanied by senior leader Imran Hussain, Singh said, “The BJP’s policy is to finish AAP everywhere, but we will resist. The party is behind every conspiracy against us, branding anyone who speaks out as a criminal or worse.”
Naming several BJP leaders, he claimed, “All thieves and mafia figures are in the BJP,” adding, “When they talk of corruption and crime, it feels like Osama bin Laden speaking on non-violence.”
Singh accused the administration of fueling unrest in Doda. “Law and order is under BJP’s control, and they are deliberately creating problems,” he said, vowing that AAP would fight Malik’s detention “on the streets, in Parliament, and in court.”
He said Malik was booked under the PSA simply for demanding a hospital for the people. “This law is meant for terrorists, not elected representatives holding protests,” Singh stressed.
Mocking the dossier prepared against Malik, Singh said it cited his Facebook lives, two lakh followers, and public influence as threats to safety. “What kind of joke is this?” he asked, dismissing the allegations as baseless.
He said the party has launched a movement with the people of Doda and Jammu and Kashmir to secure justice for Malik and would not remain silent.
