Mumbai (Maharashtra): Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has begun training in Mumbai ahead of the upcoming ODI series against Australia. The skipper shared glimpses of his preparation on Instagram, posting pictures of himself padding up and running on the field.

Rohit had announced his retirement from Test cricket in May, just before India’s ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 tour of England. Between 2013 and 2025, he played 67 Tests for India, scoring 4,301 runs at an average of 40.57, including 12 centuries and 18 fifties. His peak success in the longest format came between 2019 and 2024 as an opener, during which he became India’s leading ICC WTC Test run-scorer at one point, amassing 2,716 runs in 40 matches at an average of 41.15, with nine centuries and eight fifties.

Now, along with fellow retiree Virat Kohli, Rohit will return to international action in the three-match ODI series against Australia starting October 19.

The ‘Hitman’ is widely regarded as one of India’s greatest ODI players. He has scored 11,168 runs in 273 matches and 265 innings at an average of 48.76, with a strike rate of 92.80, including 32 centuries and 58 fifties, making him India’s fourth-highest ODI run-scorer. Rohit has also enjoyed excellent success in Australia, scoring 1,328 runs in 30 matches at an average of 53.12 and a strike rate above 90, including five centuries and four fifties, with a best score of 171.
