New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday emphasized the importance of close collaboration between the government and the automobile industry to achieve “true self-reliance” across the entire manufacturing value chain, as India moves toward its vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.

In a written address to the annual convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Modi highlighted that as India aims for global leadership in green and smart transportation, there are immense opportunities for investment and collaboration.

The Prime Minister noted that the automobile industry, a key driver of the economy, has significantly enhanced mobility and quality of life, while serving as a torchbearer of the Make in India initiative. “It has strengthened global confidence in Indian manufacturing and positioned India as a hub of automotive excellence,” he said, in a message read out by SIAM President Shailesh Chandra.

Modi further added that with strong policy frameworks and visionary reforms, India is rapidly moving toward a future-ready transportation ecosystem, integrating modern technology with world-class infrastructure—forming the backbone of the nation’s ambitious growth story in mobility.

Highlighting the sector’s focus on sustainability, he pointed out India’s advancements in green technology, electric vehicles, and other sustainable alternatives, creating opportunities in design, production, and deployment. He also praised the rise of startups, particularly in energy storage, as a positive development.

The Prime Minister lauded SIAM’s role over the years in fostering dialogue among policymakers, manufacturers, and researchers, helping address key challenges such as emissions, safety, and infrastructure, while aligning industrial strategies with national objectives.
