LG Sinha Inaugurates Exhibition on New Criminal Laws in Srinagar
SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated an exhibition on ‘New Criminal Laws’ at J&K Police Public School, Bemina, Srinagar.
Commending the initiative of the Economic Offences Wing, J&K Police, the LG highlighted its role in educating students, parents, and the general public. He said the exhibition will contribute to broader objectives of enhancing understanding of the new laws and ensuring justice reaches the last person in the queue.
“After nearly 150 years, India’s criminal justice system was overhauled on July 1, 2024, with the nationwide implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, replacing colonial-era laws and making the legal system more transparent and efficient.

These three new criminal laws have transformed our justice system, making it victim-centric and oriented toward justice rather than punishment. They embody India’s collective vision of justice, with a prime focus on protecting and empowering women and weaker sections. Special attention has been given to prioritizing the rights and safety of women, children, and marginalized groups,” the LG said.
He directed the Jammu & Kashmir Police to continue organizing public awareness campaigns on the new laws, in collaboration with the Information Department, Education Department, and Legal Services Authority, while emphasizing capacity building at all levels.
“For the first time since independence, terrorism has been clearly defined within the criminal justice framework. These laws will strengthen India’s zero-tolerance policy against terrorism,” the LG added.
The event was attended by Shri Nalin Prabhat, DGP; Shri S.J.M. Gillani, Special DG Coordination PHQ; Shri Vidhi Kumar Birdi, IGP Kashmir; Shri Sujit Kumar, IGP Security, J&K; Shri Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; senior police and civil officials, civil society members, teachers, and students.
