Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat has instructed district police heads to step up monitoring of social media platforms to curb the spread of misinformation that could threaten public safety and order.

Chairing a security review meeting at the Police Control Room in Srinagar on Thursday, the Director General of Police (DGP) assessed the prevailing situation and discussed measures to reinforce the security framework, a police spokesperson said.

Zonal inspector generals and heads of different wings briefed the DGP on the overall security scenario, recent anti-terrorist operations, and steps taken in response to emerging challenges. The deliberations also covered ongoing threats and strategies to counter them.

The DGP stressed the need for intensified surveillance on anti-national elements, stronger area domination, and enhanced protection of vulnerable targets through fool-proof security measures.

He also reviewed the rise in general crime in some areas and directed district heads to strengthen community policing and improve public outreach initiatives, the spokesperson added.
