NEW DELHI: A bomb threat sparked panic at the Delhi High Court on Thursday, sending both judges and litigants scrambling.
The commotion followed an email received by the court administration warning of an attack within the high court premises. In response, police and security agencies launched a search operation.
Sources said the registrar general received the email at around 8:39 am, and some judges were promptly informed. During court proceedings, staff alerted the judges to the threat, prompting many to vacate their courtrooms immediately. While a few judges began adjourning proceedings around 11:35 am, others continued until noon. A bomb disposal squad was deployed to the high court as a precaution.
Security was significantly tightened, and everyone present was instructed to leave the premises.
A senior police official confirmed that a PCR call had been received in the morning regarding an email claiming a bomb in the court. “We are conducting search operations. Fire officials, the bomb disposal squad, and a dog squad are on site,” he said.
Lawyers, clerks, and court staff reported being asked to evacuate. According to sources, the email stated that “today’s blast in the Delhi High Court will clear the doubts of previous bluffs,” warning that judges’ chambers would detonate shortly after mid-day Islamic prayers. It further claimed that three bombs had been planted within the court complex and instructed everyone to vacate by 2 pm.
