Microsoft Teams To Get Gmail-Like Scam Alert Feature Soon

Microsoft Teams may not be the most popular video meeting platform, but it remains a standard tool in many offices. Now, Microsoft is rolling out a much-requested feature that could make Teams safer for users by helping them avoid potential hacking attempts.

The platform will soon alert users when they receive suspicious messages or calls carrying malicious files or links—similar to Gmail’s spam warnings or SMS alerts on mobile. Outlook already uses a comparable banner to flag risky emails, and Teams will now follow suit.

How The Scam Alert Works

Microsoft has confirmed that Teams users will see this feature in a public preview later this month, with a full rollout planned for November 2025. When a message contains a flagged URL—whether it’s internal or external—Teams will display a warning banner marking it as spam, phishing, or malware. The alerts are designed to raise user awareness and work alongside existing safeguards like Safe Links and ZAP.

With platforms like Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet increasingly targeted by attackers, the new alert adds an extra layer of defense. Since Teams is widely deployed by IT admins across large organizations, even one flagged account can help protect the broader network.

While it’s surprising that Microsoft took this long to add such a critical feature, the update is a welcome step toward making Teams a more secure communication tool.
