Jammu: A Bihar resident has been arrested for allegedly murdering a woman and her two children in Ramban district, Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Friday.
The incident came to light on Tuesday when authorities received a report about three bodies discovered under a culvert along the highway in the Rattanbasti area of Banihal.
Police, accompanied by an FSL team, immediately reached the site and launched an investigation. During the probe, they identified a suspect, Anil Kumar from West Champaran district, Bihar, and apprehended him from Mir Bazar in Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said.
The victims were later identified as 30-year-old Dhanmati Devi from East Champaran, Bihar, her 9-year-old daughter Suhani Kumari, and her 5-year-old son Yash Kumar.
“Following sustained questioning and cross-examination, supported by scientific evidence, the accused confessed to the crime. Further investigation is ongoing,” police added.
The bodies, which showed visible injuries and had pieces of cloth tied around their necks, were taken to Banihal hospital for post-mortem examination.
